Take-Home Naloxone (THN) Available in Community Pharmacies in Derbyshire!

Posted on: 26 Jun 2024

Derbyshire County Council has worked with local Pharmacies to make Take-Home Naloxone more widely available in Derbyshire. Anyone (18+) can walk into a pharmacy delivering the service and request to be issued with a Take-Home Naloxone kit.

Naloxone is the life-saving drug used in an emergency to save the life of somebody who has taken an overdose caused by heroin or other opiates or opioids, such a methadone, morphine, or fentanyl. Naloxone is used widely across emergency departments and ambulance services, and many thousands of lives have been saved through the use of Naloxone.

Take-Home Naloxone (THN) is available in two forms in Derbyshire - injectable and nasal. Pharmacies will advise and train people on the safe and effective use of THN to save a life prior to issuing anyone with a kit.
